How DevOps and cloud innovations took the Deutsche Bahn app to a new level.
In a world of constant change, the efficient provision and updating of timetable data has become a key resource for Deutsche Bahn. Our ambitious project aimed to revolutionize access to these timetables through innovative DevOps and cloud technologies, not only increasing responsiveness to customer needs, but taking service quality to a whole new level.
On the rails of digital transformation
Deutsche Bahn faced the challenge of making timetables intuitive and easily accessible while seamlessly integrating modern DevOps practices and cloud technologies into the traditional corporate structure. The path to digital transformation required not only technological changes, but also a shift in the mindset of the entire organization.
We developed a three-stage approach to meet these challenges:
User-friendly application
A new app displays timetables in real time, making access easier for travelers.
Automation and collaboration
By integrating DevOps practices, we automated workflows and fostered collaboration between development and operations, enabling a faster response to customer needs.
Cloud migration
By moving important infrastructure to the cloud, we optimized the use of resources and reduced operating costs.

AWS brought flexibility, performance and cost efficiency to the infrastructure
Docker and Amazon EKS provided a clean, isolated and easily scalable solution.
AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodeCommit, CodeStar and CloudFormation enabled seamless collaboration, automation and lightning-fast deployments.
With Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray and the Elasticsearch Service, we had an overview of all systems at all times and ensured smooth processes.
IAM, KMS, Security Hub and Config protect data like a suit of armor.
Our "oracles" Amazon RDS and DynamoDB ensured that all data was always available in the right place at the right time.
Java, Python and Node.js were our tools, supported by frameworks such as Spring Boot and Flask for efficient and robust applications.
