The SAPDevOpsAssist project aimed to strengthen an existing DevOps team at SAP by integrating and supporting the adoption of best DevOps practices, tools and processes to increase efficiency in software development and delivery. Our company acted as a partner and worked closely with the team to optimize processes, introduce automation and sustainably improve collaboration between the different departments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The introduction of DevOps practices in an established development environment at SAP posed a significant challenge, as many teams were not very familiar with the concepts and tools of DevOps. This made it difficult to accept and implement new methods and techniques. Added to this was the need to integrate into an existing team, some of which had developed their own working methods. This integration required not only rapid adaptation, but also building trust in order to work together effectively. In addition, there was a clear need for in-depth knowledge of DevOps tools and processes to help the teams apply them correctly and integrate them seamlessly into existing workflows. We identified the following pain points as part of the project:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Lack of automation<\/span><\/b>
A large part of the build and deployment processes were manual, which led to lengthy waiting times and frequent errors in production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Non-transparent work processes<\/span><\/b>
There was no clear overview of the status of code integrations and deployments, which led to unnecessary delays.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Little collaboration between teams<\/span><\/b>
Developers and operations teams worked in isolation, which often led to misunderstandings and inefficient transitions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

To successfully overcome the challenges and increase efficiency in the development process, we implemented several strategic measures. A key step was the introduction of automated CI\/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Azure DevOps. This enabled continuous integration and delivery of software, which accelerated software delivery by 30%. In addition, we focused on process automation and standardization by using Ansible for configuration management and Docker for containerization. These technologies helped to create a consistent development and operating environment. In addition, regular training and workshops encouraged greater collaboration within the team to efficiently integrate DevOps practices and raise awareness of their benefits.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
